History
The origin of imbuements is a tale lost to the passing of time, but many speculations have pointed to the void, and its tendency to provide powers exotic and formidable. The current consensus is that many eons ago, the void and all of existence were separated from each other, such that neither could influence the other, but constant stretching against the boundary of existence caused small areas of it to brush up against the Void, leading to an imbalance across the veil of being. These led to the possibility of incursions, where small rifts would form in these connected areas, and due to the sheer force behind the Void, it would typically lead to the void entering into existence, instead of the other way around. To counter this, the Weave created Imbuements, to make creatures more efficient, leading to a more balanced competition between the powers of being and nothingness.
Knowledge
Many experiments have been done on imbuements and their users, trying to understand the limits of their powers. The leading expert on this is the Archwizard Abanor, who has spent the past 90 years culminating the sum of the worlds knowledge on the subject, which is written below:
